Minister’s Welcome

Me

Welcome

Dear Friend,

If you are reading this message for the first time you may not be familiar with "Unity" or with "Unity of Toledo". That is perfectly understandable because people often say that Unity is the best kept secret on the planet. But my friend, you have found us and it may be helpful for you to know who we are and why people who find us often feel as though they have come home at last. I invite you to explore the various pages on this web site. Check out the “About Unity” and the “About Unity of Toledo” pages to become familiar with Unity and with our church.

For many years, I searched to find meaning in religion. I poured through book after book, visited church after church hoping to find a meaning of God that satisfied my curious mind. Is there really such a thing as God? Can I come to know and experience God in a real way? Can that kind of understanding really impact my life in a practical way? Why am I here? What is my purpose? What is life all about? How can I experience inner peace?
These questions lingered always on the edge of my mind and I continued my search, earnestly seeking answers. I questioned non-Christian and Christian religious groups, ( I had pretty much abandoned religion), but was mostly left just feeling empty and unfulfilled; finding neither the answers to my questions or the acceptance and compassion I searched for, but instead even more questions, greater confusion, deeper judgment and exaggerated exclusion.

In 1991, I was blessed to be “dragged to church by my mother.” She took me to Unity Church of Austin and I felt like I had come home. In the teachings, I found the Truth I was searching for and freedom to explore and question my personal theology without the judgment or condemnation of others. In the people, I found a community that authentically expressed the love, light and peace of God. I found others on a similar journey in consciousness, willing to explore and question the assumptions of our culture, and work together to make a difference in this world. Finding Unity has been the greatest blessing of my life. For in it, I have found a True freedom of Spirit.

These same questions may have prompted your search for Truth. Or maybe you’re looking for the camaraderie and fellowship of a spiritual family that delights in celebrating, supporting and loving each other. Or quite possibly you just need a place that offers a sacred spiritual space to relax in.

What ever it is, you are welcome here.
Blessings,
Rev. Lynn O'Dell
