John Van Deilen, President
John Van Deilen, Board member since April 2006. I first attended Unity at 8 years of age, and have been a New Thought student since age 17 studying numerous authors and began my meditation practice at age 25. I reunited, for a time, with Unity of Toledo in 1990 with my wife and children. I returned again to Unity after separating from my wife 2004 and have been blessed with the rewarding experience of sharing Time, Talent and Treasure as a Unity of Toledo Board member since April of 2006 and a sponsor of the Y.O.U. June 2007. I am a divorced father of two boys, Victor (20) and Vincent (18) and have been involved in our family business of buying and selling used industrial equipment on an international basis since my 1983 graduation from University of Toledo with a Bachelors in Business.
Karyl Kerry Young, Vice President
I have attended Unity of Toledo for almost 2 years and was accepted into membership last year. This church has provided me with many opportunities to learn and serve. I have taken several classes (most for credit). I am a member of the Women of Faith group. I helped design and facilitate the first World Day of Prayer service/ prayer vigil, the movie premiere of “Conversations With God” and assisted with the creation of our two labyrinths. I attended all of John Babb’s Healing workshops, Rita Herzog’s workshop on Non-Violent Communication and helped prepare for our future, with the committees that created our Mission Statement and the proposed new budget. Sunday mornings I usher, greet, sing in the choir, perform solos, periodically lead worship and read the Daily Word. I have volunteered to conduct the choir until a permanent director is found.
Throughout the years, I’ve held various offices, in 3 UMC churches and other organizations:
1. 7 years on the Board of Trustees (5 as the president).
2. 3 years on the nominating committee.
3. 3 years on the finance committee.
4. 2 years on the building committee.
5. 5 years on worship and other arts (2 at the state level)
6. 3 years on the Board of Directors of The Walk to Emmaus
(2 years as Chairperson of Music).
7. 2 years on the Board of St Cecelia Society
(served on several committees)
I am blessed beyond measure to be married, for almost 16 years, to my loving husband, Jim, who practices and teaches emergency medicine at the University of Toledo Medical Center. We moved to Perrysburg in May of 2000, from Clinton Township, MI.!
Arlene Rathge, Treasurer
My husband and I began attending Unity of Toledo in 1972 and shortly thereafter became members of a active and viable church of Unity.
Throughout the years I participated in many of the excellent courses and refresher classes offered here, which added strength to our development of a wonderful life and happy marriage, learning the truths, and discovered the foundation of our spirituality was right here at Unity.
My husband and I owned and operated our business for 26 years. We raised four children and gave them the rewards of a good, loving, and valued upbringing. I am also proud of my 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren that I adore.
After my husband’s passing I continue with the business on a part time basis.
My spare hours are spent volunteering at Unity and the F.A.I.T.H. group as well as at Flower Gift Shop.
I have frequently availed myself over the years with Unity classes, workshops, courses and the gainful lectures offered here.
I, too, have a dream—I envision a prosperous, flourishing church with enrichment of classes, educational courses, abundance of youth and children,
outstanding music department and the dynamics and leadership of Rev. Lynn.
With my commitment, loyalty, dedication and knowledge it is an honor and a privilege to serve on Unity of Toledo’s Board of Directors.
